The Sitzer-Burnett case has significantly shaken the real estate landscape, leading to more negotiable and transparent payment models. This blog post will briefly overview the case, the major changes introduced, the ongoing challenges and opportunities for realtors, and practical tips for navigating this new environment.

Brief Overview

You’ve probably heard the buzz around the Sitzer-Burnett case if you’re a realtor. This landmark ruling zeroed in on how commissions are handled in our industry, pushing for formalized transparency and what is being called “increased competition.” A good way to think about it moving forward is that it’s all about making sure clients understand what they’re paying for and why, which, let’s face it, is a good move for everyone. In fact, it’s likely. a move you’ve already been making. So, what does this mean for you? Let’s try to break it down together.

Pre/ Post Sitzer-Burnett

Before

An overwhelming number of home buyers and sellers reported that they felt commissions were often set in stone and had little insight or control over how those fees were divided up. Seasoned professionals often had checklists and systems that new realtors did not. While we had our tried-and-true methods honed over years of experience, it seems that more than a few folks needed additional support.

After

Now, we’re in more uncertain territory, and the ground will continue to shift until they wrap this whole thing up. Commissions were always up for negotiation, but now express language and documentation guide the process. Thus, we’ll need to be more plain-language and upfront in our approach with clients about where their money goes. Those best practices we’ve relied on? They’ll now become the standard, written into the rulebook. It’s a new era of flexibility, where explaining our value isn’t just a nicety—it’s a necessity.

Key Challenges

New Norms

Change can be challenging, especially when it feels like the rug is being pulled out from under you. We must adapt quickly to changing commission structures and requirements and ensure we’re playing by the new rules. Explaining these changes to clients in a way that makes sense is a whole new ball game. Your new goal for commissions is clarity, clarity, and choice.

CLARITY

Be outrageously clear, and don’t use any industry language.

CONCISE

Keep it brief. Think about what is truly necessary, and use bullet points. No one wants a presentation on the specifics and hardships of your job—ever. (No one.)

CHOICE

Outline your unique value and their clear options.

Increased Competition

With more flexibility comes varied competition. Hopefully, this will be a good change of pace for clients, assuming everyone is ethical. However, it could also make life tricky. Some might try to undercut prices or take shortcuts to stay competitive. The challenge will be to maintain our standards and provide top-notch service without getting drawn into a race to the bottom.

Supporting New Realtors

This new landscape can be overwhelming for those just starting out – as if it wasn’t already. New agents will need beaucoup guidance to navigate this transition effectively. We seasoned professionals must step up, offering support and sharing our hard-earned knowledge to help them find their footing.

Key Opportunities

Innovative Pay Structures

Is this an upside? Time will tell. Listen, folks, we’re innovators. We “make it work” all the time. We can do it here, too. Flat fees, hourly rates, service bundles – abundant possibilities. Tailoring new options to fit unique values and client needs can set agents apart and show that we’re flexible and forward-thinking. (…Breathe.)

Enhanced Client Relationships

By clearly explaining the value we bring to the table, we can foster trust and loyalty. Creating clear, easy-to-understand materials and scripts helps clients feel informed and confident about their choices. Consider using social media or creating a landing page rather than sitting clients down to teach them new regulations. Think about the 3 C’s and consider what kind of engagement you yourself would want – likely not an Open House that feels like Saturday morning detention, right? Right.

Continued Professional Growth

The industry is ever-evolving, and we must move along with it. Investing in our education and staying ahead of trends has always been essential to being excellent agents. Remember that mentoring new agents helps them and strengthens the industry as a whole. Forward together.

Sitzer-Burnett Success

Clear Materials

Help clients understand the new commission structures by making it as easy as possible. Developing brochures, FAQs, and other materials that explain these changes in simple terms can go a long way toward building trust and clarity. Primarily, you will want to follow new regulations and assure clients that you will treat them honestly and respectfully and do your professional best to serve them (as you always have).

Effective Communication

Clear, concise scripts to navigate the changes will make all the difference. You know what I say: Tough conversations? Get a script, STAT! When we are confident and casual in explaining changes, clients are less likely to feel overwhelmed. (You have to do this part. You must.)

Leverage Technology

Embracing technology isn’t just a trend – it’s a necessity. These tools can enhance our efficiency and client experience, from advanced CRM systems to virtual tours. Staying tech-savvy keeps us competitive. If you’ve decided you or your agency is going with a new pay structure, let tech do the heavy lifting. Don’t lag behind here.

Final Thoughts

The Sitzer-Burnett case is introducing significant changes, but realtors still have the opportunity to innovate and improve their services as the outcome evolves. Realtors can thrive in this changing landscape by adapting to new pay structures, enhancing client communication, and investing in professional growth. Remember, adapting to a new opportunity and then leveraging it to your advantage is the key to success.

Real estate school taught you all about what it takes to be a successful realtor. You did all the work and got the highest marks. But, now that you’ve been out on your own for a few months, things aren’t exactly like you thought they’d be.

If “Where did it all go wrong?” crosses your mind or enters your prayers at least once a day, you’re not alone. Unfortunately, many new real estate graduates feel unprepared and unsupported when they enter the industry and make the same mistakes over and over again.

Take a seat, put your feet up on that staged leather ottoman, and learn from the mistakes of those who have come before you to become a better realtor today.

Lack of Market Knowledge

To be successful in this industry, it’s crucial to have a strong understanding of the local real estate market. National trends are important to keep in mind, but your own cozy little corner of the world is what truly matters when it comes to serving clients best. Unfortunately, this is something that many new realtors really struggle with. Predicting trends and making informed decisions is difficult without market knowledge, leading to missed opportunities and less success.

Real estate is a complex industry, and there are many factors to consider when trying to make a sale. Knowing what’s happening in your local market is essential to properly advise your clients and provide them with realistic expectations. Include information on what prices homes are selling for, how long they’re taking to sell, and the current interest rate averages.

Poor Networking Skills

Successful networking is essential for any business but can be especially critical for new realtors. Building a solid network of colleagues and clients is key to long-term success in the industry, yet making connections can be difficult starting out. Many new realtors struggle to find their place in the market, and poor networking often makes it even harder to get ahead. It’s not only exhausting, but it can be embarrassing to break into an already tight social-professional scene.

You can do several things to make networking easier and more effective. Attend as many industry events as possible. Meeting other realtors and learning about their work can help you develop relationships that could lead to future business opportunities. Additionally, join online forums and discussion groups where you can share your knowledge and learn from others in the field. Networking is also essential when it comes to finding new clients.

Toxic Unprofessionalism

Most realtors are successful because they have been in the business for a while. They have learned the ropes and know what to do to be successful. Newbies, or those who are new to the real estate industry, often find it challenging to be successful. This is usually because of the unprofessionalism that exists in the industry. Real estate is no outlier — toxic workplace communities and industries are all over. We must do what we can to pour positivity into our daily lives and uplift others as an alternative.

Many things go into being a good realtor. You must have excellent customer service skills, be able to market yourself and your listings, and know how to close deals. However, all of this can be overshadowed by unprofessionalism.

Unprofessionalism can take many forms, such as poor communication skills, being late for appointments, not following through on commitments, or simply being rude.

Giving Up Too Easily

Being a realtor is one of the most successful professions in the United States. The low-end salary for a realtor is $71,000, and the profession is growing at a rate of 6%. However, newbies to the business also have a high chance of not succeeding. Out of every 100 new realtors, only 33 will still be in business after five years. The inability to close deals among new realtors is staggering.

Closing a deal is essential to being successful as a realtor, but so are dedication and tenacity. To close a deal on paper, you need to be able to find buyers and sellers, negotiate prices, and get the contracts signed. Still, other steps include dogged stick-with-itness, expert communication, and laser focus. Many new realtors struggle with all the moving parts and quit within their first year without the proper support.

Don’t Have Mentors

Continuing your education is essential if you want to be a successful realtor. This time, instead of textbooks and slideshows, learn from those who have their stripes in the industry. A mentor or a coach is an invaluable asset for a new realtor. Author and thought leader Malcolm Gladwell did the tough math for the rest of us in his book, Outliers. He reported that to be a true student of the craft, you have to log something like 10,000 hours studying, practicing, and doing the thing. Look for a mentor with a reputation for commitment and experience to guide you on the path to success.

Fix It With a Mentor

An experienced realtor who has done the thing can teach you the ropes and help you avoid common mistakes. They have seen things. They can also advise you on building your business and finding new clients. Most importantly, a mentor can help keep you motivated during tough times – they know where you’ve been and understand what it takes to get to the next level.

Which came first, the coach or the client? Or is it the one with the old adage that tells us that when the student is ready, the teacher appears? No matter, coaches that achieve success without self-coaching have a secret that other people are still figuring out: You can’t do it alone.

Both the coach and the learner are everpresent. To be a great coach, you have to be an invested learner. To be a great learner and master your knowledge, you have to be able to share it with someone else. Too mystic for you to get behind? It’s actually efficient, and real estate coaches are an asset that successful agents swear by. Find out why.

What Is Coaching?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as coaching can be quite diverse in terms of what it entails and who it benefits. In general, though, coaching is a collaborative process through which a person with more experience helps someone with less experience achieve more success. This could mean anything from helping a new entrepreneur get their business off the ground to assisting an executive in reaching the next level in their career.

Coaching is often seen as a way for people to achieve more tremendous success than they could on their own. It can be especially beneficial for those who are new to something or looking to make a change.

What Are The Benefits of Coaching?

Coaching can help you set and achieve your goals and support you need to stay on track. People often think of coaching as a tool for elite athletes, but it can be just as useful for people starting out in their careers. Coaching is constructive for newbies trying to figure out the ins and outs of their career paths.

A coach can help you assess your skills and interests and advise you on how to pursue your goals. They typically also have experiential knowledge of your similar, if not exact, pursuit in your industry.

What Are The Benefits of Coaching in Real Estate?

When it comes to real estate, many people think that success is about knowing the right people, having the right resources, or making the right connections. They’re not too far off the mark, but one thing is missing from the list: real estate coaching can be one of the most all-in-one tools you have in your arsenal.

Coaching can help both new and experienced real estate investors achieve their goals. For newbies, coaching can provide a roadmap to success and keep them on track. More experienced investors can use coaching to take their business to the next level by learning new techniques and strategies. It also provides the accountability crucial to every successful business venture. When you have a coach, you are more likely to stay focused and achieve your goals because you don’t want to disappoint them.

How Come No One Told Me Coaching Is a Process, Not an Event?

No one becomes successful overnight. It takes time and effort. Many people make the mistake of thinking that coaching is an event. The misnomer is that it’s a one-time thing that will magically transform them into the most successful person. But success doesn’t happen that way. It’s a process that requires ongoing coaching, re-evaluation, and support.

If you’re new to coaching, it’s important to remember that newfound success doesn’t happen with the wave of a magic wand; it takes time, effort, and a lot of teamwork. That’s why it’s so beneficial to find a coach who understands the success process and can help you stay on track. A good coach will work with you to set realistic goals and provide the guidance and support you need to achieve them.

Is Coaching Worth It for New AND Experienced Agents?

Sometimes it’s just better to have a person who’s been there and done that and can help you do the same. A coach can help you navigate choppy waters and achieve success faster. Even if you’ve been doing your thing for just as long as they have — some people just have that special thing going on that you want to be a part of too!

An excellent real estate agent coach will tell you the truth about the process every time: it’s better when you work together. They can provide you with what you need help with to reach your goals. They can offer guidance on everything from lead generation to contract negotiation. In addition, they can help keep you motivated when you need it, which is essential when you’re just starting out. Real estate agent coaching is worth considering whenever you’re looking for ways to improve your business.

But I will! The current state of real estate marketing is: that it’s essential and it’s expensive! And it’s hard to figure out exactly where to pool your resources for the biggest impact unless you’re a seasoned pro.

The reason is that real estate marketing is often full of gimmicks and empty promises. Many agencies promise to get you and your agency on the first page of Google, but few can actually deliver. And those that can often charge a hefty price for their services that don’t work forever.

Will there ever be a happy medium, and can you do anything to help yourself? Read on to learn more about the truth no one wants to admit.

Marketing Is a Whole Career

The truth is, real estate marketing is brain-draining and sometimes back-breaking work. In case you didn’t know, marketing is a professional field, just like the real estate industry. And, just like real estate, it requires a lot of time and effort, and there’s not always a guarantee of success. New agents often find this out the hard way as they struggle to get their business off the ground. There aren’t any shortcuts or easy fixes. It takes time and effort to build a successful business.

There’s something that successful agents know that unsuccessful agents don’t. The secrets to successful marketing are to let the professionals do the big stuff and, for the small stuff, always create before you consume. What’s that mean? Instead of getting sucked into other people’s marketing and then wearing out your thinking cap, push through your biggest and brightest ideas first. While maintaining the upkeep of engagement, you can look to other marketing examples for your next campaign.

Real Estate Is a Whole Career

You’re a professional real estate agent, right? When it comes to real estate, there’s no room for error. If you want your business to be successful, you need to let the professionals take over – the professional marketing agency. They will help you get your name out there and reach new customers.

Agencies have the knowledge and resources to get your business in front of the right people. They know how to target your ideal customer and create a campaign that will resonate with them. Additionally, they have the experience necessary to ensure your campaign is successful.

Marketing Agencies Have Power

Hiring an agency can be the difference between success and failure if you’re a brand new business. They can help you establish yourself in an existing market and build a foundation for future growth. An agency can also help you learn about your industry and what makes it unique.

They have a finger on the pulse of social media best practices and the quick changes that are difficult for realtors to keep up with while serving clients. Social media also helps you stay up-to-date on industry news and trends. It’s a way for you to stay top of mind for those who are in the market for a home. For new agents, social media can be a potent tool for networking.

Work With Your Marketing Agency

You should control at least one platform on your own social media. But why? You hired professionals to do that. Right! But, you should be active on social media as a real estate agent for several reasons.

First, it’s great for YOU to connect with potential clients. They can learn more about you and your services, and you can stay in touch with them easily. By creating a robust online presence, you can establish yourself as an expert in your field and gain credibility with potential clients. By sharing relevant content, you can attract new leads and build relationships.

Reminders for Real Success

Social media is a powerful branding tool for real estate agents and brokers. But like any other marketing avenue, social media success requires a strategic approach and adherence to some basic rules.

Work with your marketing team to ensure your posts are on brand. It can be tempting to post something that you like or something that you think is funny. However, STICK TO THE BRAND. Diligence will make you and your services an easily identifiable big fish in a sea of realtors.

Choose the best platform for your posts and your audience. Not every social media platform hits the exact audience with the same purpose. Let your marketing agency figure out your demographic and head there. Don’t forget to account for user-friendliness – it doesn’t help to have a platform full of potential clients if you don’t know how to engage with them.

Create valuable content for your audience. Here’s a rule to live by: Make it useful, make it relevant, or make it entertaining. (Bonus points for all three.)

Create before you consume. Remember this one? It’s a common pitfall. It is tempting to look at all the other accounts out there, and you should! It’s fun. You can get inspired, learn what not to do, and pick up tips. However, make sure you create your own content before you consume all of what the web has to offer. Otherwise, you risk the loss of future posts to death by comparison or loss of creativity. Do yourself a favor, and make it a rule to post first and peruse second.

Real Estate Marketing Is a Requirement

Marketing is essential information you should know and plan for as you enter the market in your area, especially if it is already saturated. Plan to spend about 20% of your money in the first year by investing it directly back into your marketing budget. While you’re at it, if you’re not social savvy, make sure your marketing team schools you on at least one platform and how to stay on-brand when you post. The effort and upkeep may seem steep initially, but remember that there is little likelihood you will rack up closings if no one knows who you are.

I’ve learned a lot of things in the 20+ years I’ve been in real estate. Many of my lessons in the school of real estate hard knocks have had to do with money.

To help save you from some of those same hard knock headaches, I’ll share some information about money in the real estate game and how it works, or doesn’t, when you’re an aspiring realtor.

Nothing Is Certain

First, realizing that the real estate market is unpredictable and can change quickly is essential. Second, it’s important to be prepared for price fluctuations – up and down – as well as commissions and closing costs.

The beginning of your real estate journey will probably feel expensive and frustrating, even if you get lucky a few times. But money isn’t everything, so don’t get discouraged if you’re not making much of it at first. However, money isn’t nothing either, so start taking it to heart that your time isn’t free. Make sure that you’re actively working toward a goal where you can pay yourself first. You can do a few things to start working on that goal right now.

Get It Together

As a new realtor, you are probably very excited to get your business up and running. However, it is part of the realtor’s journey to remember that you must accurately track your expenses and income to be successful. This can be done quickly with an organized system. With tracking, you can see where you are making money and where you need to make changes. Additionally, it will help you stay on top of your taxes and keep your business in the black.

You can ensure that your real estate business is successful with a little organization! You can then track your expenses, such as advertising, closing costs, licensing fees, and income, so you can stay on top of your finances. There are many different ways to track your expenses and income, so find one that works best for you and stick with it.

Get a Plan

To start, you can figure out what you want your salary to be in 5 or 10 years and work towards that goal. When you’re ready to get down to the nitty-gritty, you can start redefining what you want to save for retirement, create a better budget, and invest in your business and other opportunities.

One of the biggest reasons new agents fail is that they don’t have a solid financial plan. They spend all their money on marketing and then run out of funds when they need it most. Learn more about the MJ Network red light/ green light strategy to better allocate funds for your first year in real estate.

Get a Budget

Creating a budget is also essential for any businessperson, but it’s significant for realtors. Without a budget, you’ll quickly find yourself in debt and struggling to make ends meet. Networking is essential, but it’s also the quickest way to overspend if you don’t have a clear budget.

A budget also ensures that you have the structure to save for retirement. Many new agents forget about this step and end up working until they’re too old to do so. Let’s not do that! A retirement fund will allow you to quit your job when you’re ready and still have money to live on.

Get Ahead

One of the most serious investments new realtors can make is in themselves. They need to be willing to learn as much as possible about the industry and how to be successful. Attending seminars, webinars, and other educational events will help them gain the necessary knowledge.

In addition to investing in their education, new realtors also need to invest in their professional development. This includes marketing themselves effectively, having a solid online presence, and networking with other professionals in the industry. New realtors must invest in themselves by attending continuing education courses and seminars. Continuing your education in some way or another will help you make more money as a real estate agent now and in the future. Making investments in yourself can be costly, but they are well worth it in the long run.

Get Tips

Plenty of people are willing to give advice when it comes to money – both paid and for free. New realtors can often feel lost and unsure of what to do when it comes to money matters. This is where seeking advice from more experienced colleagues can be highly beneficial. By getting tips and pointers from those who have been in the business for a while, new realtors can save time, money, and hassle.

Remember that real estate financial success requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and most importantly, money. The people you ask for advice from will have spent their fair share of Franklins on advice, supplies, education, marketing, and mistakes. Advice from established mentors or just those who have been successful in the business is bountiful but be respectful of their time because it is, after all, their money.

Get the Real Truth

Here it is: real estate won’t be as easy as you thought – at least, not at first. It takes dedication and perseverance to be successful and even more so to be successful with your money and manage your finances in this field. You can’t just grab a license and expect to sell a house daily and live off your riches. Still, it is fulfilling, and the experience can be very lucrative if you work at it. Be sure to save money for expenses and retirement as a matter of practice before investing back in your business and before spending.

Do you have enough money to comfortably cover your expenses for the next 4 to 5 months, maybe even 6? No? Then, you won’t like what I just learned: According to a recent National Association of Realtors (NAR) study, it can take up to 4 months or more for a new realtor to generate enough leads to make their first commission.

NO ONE has time for THAT.

That’s why it’s SUCH A BIG DEAL for new realtors to find lead generation methods to help them get started quickly. Learn 5 ways to conquer lead gen without sucking dry months of your precious savings.

Why Lead Gen Matters

Lead generation is essential to the success of any realtor. Without a steady stream of qualified leads, it won’t be easy to maintain a successful real estate business at the beginning of your career (or ever). There are plenty of different ways and a plethora of different ideas out there to generate leads. Still, one of the most effective methods is through lead generation campaigns. A well-executed lead generation campaign can help you convert more leads into sales, which will help you grow your business.

Is Tracking Leads Necessary?

A lead generation tracking system is essential for any realtor who wants to succeed. However, no matter your method or tools, you must first decide on a lead generation tracking system. Not only can it be difficult to get leads, but it’s challenging to track the success of your lead generation campaigns. If you’re wondering if that demand is a clear case of putting the cart ahead of the horse, just hold your hooves — getting a tracking system in place before your start generating leads ensures that you don’t lose any essential information.

What Are the Benefits of Tracking?

A lead generation tracking system can help you measure your campaigns’ effectiveness and improve results. It can help you estimate your campaigns’ effectiveness and improve your results. A lead generation tracking system can also help you to identify which campaigns are working and which ones need improvement. It can also help you track potential clients’ progress from lead to a sale. This information can help you to fine-tune your campaigns and improve your results.

How To Generate Leads

It’s essential, but it doesn’t have to feel impossible when you know you have beaucoup options.

Utilize Online Resources

Realtors who want to be successful should generate leads by utilizing online resources. Online resources are a great way to get your name out there and connect with potential clients. In addition, online resources are a great way to keep your name in people’s minds. Online resources can help you make money and succeed in your real estate business.

Tap Into Your Network

Tapping into your network can be a great way to generate more leads and close more sales. Your friends, family, and colleagues may not be in the market for a new home right now, but they may know someone who is. You open yourself to a wealth of potential leads when you tap into your network. Not only can tapping into your network help you generate more leads, but it can also help you make more money.

Try for Vetted Leads

Many real estate agents attribute their success to the quality of their leads. However, generating leads is only one part of the equation – converting them is another. Successful agents know how to convert their leads by starting with quality, vetted leads. Bonus if your contacts already trust you and are likely to do business with you if you can provide them with what they’re looking for.

Use Social Media

Realtors should use social media to generate leads because it is a great way to connect with potential buyers and sellers. Social media platforms are free to use, so there is no cost for realtors to communicate with people who may be interested in purchasing or selling a home. In addition, social media platforms are a great way to build relationships with potential clients. Again, people are more likely to do business with someone they know and trust. Social media is a great way to establish that initial trust with potential clients. Finally, using social media is a great way to stay top of mind for potential clients.

Don’t Overlook Tradition

Still, one of the oldest and most successful lead gen methods is through traditional media. Television, radio, and print advertising can effectively reach potential customers. Some forms of traditional media can be expensive and impactful in building brand awareness. Realtors who invest in traditional media should make sure that their ads are well-targeted and well-designed before emptying their wallets. Track results and adjust campaigns as needed to achieve the most success possible.

Consider Billboard Advertising

Of traditional media options, billboards are one cost-effective option for realtors. By using billboards, realtors can reach a large audience quickly and easily. Moreover, billboards generate attention and curiosity, resulting in more leads. A recent study found that over 80% of drivers recall looking at billboard advertising on their daily transit. Wowza! You will still have to follow up, but billboards pack more punch than you might have realized.

Get In Your Community

Successful realtors will always look for ways to increase their success and income. One of the best ways to do this is by getting involved in the community. This homegrown involvement can help build your network and get more leads. Being involved in the community can also help realtors make connections that they may not have otherwise been able to make. These connections can then lead to more business opportunities. Additionally, being active in the community can help a realtor’s reputation and lead to more business. Quite the lagniappe, if you ask me!

Get To Generating!

When you’re just starting out, generating leads is the difference between one month or six of relying on your piggy bank to get by. A lead generation plan that you can act on quickly is essential to success as a realtor.

Using the techniques mentioned in this article, you can increase your chances of success while maintaining your professionalism and savings account. Get your plan in motion, grab the right script, and pick up the phone today.

Salt and light … and staging? The Sermon on the Mount is one of Jesus’ most famous speeches, and it is full of great advice for everyone, including new realtors. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Some of the most important things that successful realtors have come straight from these pages: humility, compassion, and patience.

We all know that success doesn’t come easy and that we should always be willing to put in the hard work necessary to achieve our goals. Realtors who are mindful of these teachings will likely succeed in their careers by working hard and following the examples set before them.

Find out why the Sermon on the Mount makes perfect sense for realtors and how to apply the lessons to a successful career in real estate.

What Is The Sermon on the Mount?

The Sermon on the Mount is found in the Gospel of Matthew and is Jesus’ longest recorded Sermon. In this Sermon, Jesus talks about the Law of Moses and how it should be interpreted. He talks about how people should live their lives and what they should expect in the future. The Sermon on the Mount is, yes, an integral part of Christianity. But so much of what it teaches is still relevant right now. Even if you’re not religious, the excerpt has essential wisdom that benefits everyone.

How Can Realtors Take the SOTM to Work?

Like salt and light in the world, realtors add flavor unbiasedly and bring light into the darkness. New realtors can be successful by taking the Sermon on the Mount into their daily lives. We also need to be good stage managers to fulfill our commitment to our clients, we should put on a good show and make them feel comfortable. If we do these things, we will be successful at serving clients.

The Golden Rule: How to Treat Others

Did you know that The Sermon on the Mount precedes the Golden Rule? The Bible says, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” (Matthew 7:12 & Luke 6:31). This is also called the Golden Rule. It is a simple way to remember how to treat other people.

New realtors can apply the Golden Rule as a matter of professional practice. You can use the Golden Rule when buying or selling a house — always be honest with your clients. You should tell them both the good and the bad things about the house while being respectful, sensitive to their needs, and professional.

The Platinum Rule: How People Want To Be Treated

When it comes to the Platinum Rule, realtors have a unique opportunity to put the essential teachings into practice just by listening. The rule suggests that we should treat others as they say they want to be treated, which is especially important in real estate. Because realtors often work with buyers and sellers who are complete strangers, they must create a positive experience for everyone involved.

One way to do this is by being kind and understanding. People are more likely to trust their realtor when they feel they’re being listened to and understood. Realtors should work to not push their own agenda but focus on what the client wants. The Platinum Rule is an effective way to calm the waters with many different clients.

The Beatitudes: How To Be Blessed

One way to follow The Beatitudes is to be humble and merciful. Do this by understanding when things go wrong and being willing to help others out, even if it’s not required. In real estate, this could mean going the extra mile for clients or colleagues or being patient when working through a tough negotiation.

Another way to follow The Beatitudes is to be a peacemaker. This means being kind and respectful to everyone, regardless of their position or status in life. In real estate, always put the client first, no matter their situation in life, and negotiate fairly on their behalf.

The Magic Middle: Managing Expectations

Realtors can show clients they are relatable and trustworthy by emphasizing that they are not perfect. Realtors can also use the SOTM teachings to manage client expectations by setting the tone for their interactions with clients. Additionally, realtors can use the principles of The Sermon on the Mount to build relationships with clients and to provide them with essential guidance during their home buying or selling process.

Realtors are often managing their expectations for clients, too. It can be challenging to deal with buyers who are hoping for a home that is larger or more luxurious than what is actually available or sellers who are unrealistic about their asking price. In these situations, it can also be helpful to remember the teaching of The Sermon on the Mount.

Successful Realtors Turn Teachings Into Practice

Jesus tells us that we shouldn’t worry about our future because God knows what we need and will provide for us. This is good news for realtors working with clients stressed out about finding their perfect home. Jesus also teaches the value of being kind. We should always be willing to help our clients, even if it means going above and beyond.

The foundations for The Sermon on the Mount are truly life-changing. Still, it is always more impactful when we put teachings into practice to serve others.
